Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the high-speed corner before the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
