Much like Storm Claudia swept through the northwest the night before, City blew Manchester United aside at the Etihad. It was a convincing three-nil win for the City coach's side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that firmly established their title credentials as they strengthened their position at the league summit.

Back-to-Back Losses for United

This scoreline signalled consecutive league defeats for the United manager's side for the first time since last May, putting them seven points off the table toppers with their championship aspirations hanging by a thread.

Manchester United's capability to manage league and European soccer with a limited squad has been a widely debated issue since they qualified for the European competition. Looking at the fixture list, it always appeared this was the matchday that would fully examine this fortitude. Unfortunately for the opposition, they looked fatigued from start to finish, the memorable win against the French side clearly having left its mark.

Team Changes
